Guat Spot

As time progresses and the chapters of history are written, new words and phrases situate themselves among the accepted vocabulary of our society. This is inevitable, and can be positive, but every so often it all goes wrong. Every so often a word is spawned which is so foul and disgusting to the eyes and ears of readers and listeners that it must be rejected by those of us who are responsible enough to do so. In the past decade, one such word has been created and has invaded our collective consciousness to a frightening degree. That word is "Blog". When I imagine what it might be like to hold a "blog", I vomit just a little bit in my mouth. "blog" is a word better suited to describe some strange variety of putrid, disease ridden, goo. In response to this assault on our vernacular, we have decided to fight fire with Guat. "Guat" is a similarly disgusting and arbitrary word, but invokes a much more comical response. We hope that "Guat" will take over and "blog" will suffer the very same wretched and horrifying fate that it sounds like it may describe. Blogs are dead. Welcome to the Guat.

My friend Nigel Dunkley and his partner (together they operate under the name Claroscuro)  were recently commissioned to paint the interior of a new restraunt at Canary Wharf in London, England.  They went through a long selection process, and were eventually selected from an extremely talented pool of artists vying for the job.  I know Nigel to be one of the most talented, dedicated, and diverse artists that I have ever been around.  I was able to study with him in London, and he made a big impact on me and on my work.  It’s great to see good friends and hard working, dedicated people gaining opportunities in the art world!  Check out this short video documenting the Canary Wharf project, and check out more good stuff at http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/nigeldunkley/claroscuro/index.html and at http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/nigeldunkley/.
